Rush House - Baillie Henderson

Description: The project delivered a refurbishment of the heritage-listed Rush House at the existing Baillie Henderson Hospital. The purpose was to provide non-clinical office space for use of Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service.
Avant Scope: Structural design of high-level foundations and block walls to provide external lift access to both levels. Inspection and structural assessment of various elements were required during construction to determine capacity and compliance to current Australian Standards. Any required structural works were designed to ensure the building’s historical character was preserved.

Toowoomba Hospital Museum - Cranley

Build Cost: ~$3.5 Million
Description: The project transformed the heritage listed Medical Superintendent’s House at the existing Baillie Henderson Hospital into a museum to feature medical and healthcare artefacts for the history of the Darling Downs.
Avant Scope: Works included necessary repair and strengthening to the existing dwelling, a courtyard extension, and construction of adjacent carparking and amphitheatre. We worked closely with the builder during construction to inspect and assess structure once exposed to determine cost-effective measures for achieving the required design outcomes for the proposed use, whilst maintaining and complementing the existing structure and appearance where possible.

Millbrook House - East Toowoomba

Description: The project delivered a revitalisation and extension to the existing structure for use as a childcare facility. The ~160 year old heritage building originally served as a residence for the first mayor of Toowoomba
Avant Scope: Structural design of raft and piled footings, timber and steel floor, wall and roof structures for the extension elements. Inspection and assessment of existing structural elements and connections to determine capacities and design of strengthening where required to complement the original building form.
